I have to say, I'm pretty close to the edge of the slough of despond. The decision by SCOTUS today has upended what our country has been for 200 plus years. Now the courts decide what was an official act vs. what wasn't. Prosecuting the orange menace will turn into a round robin of appeals. He's already appealing convictions for things he did when he wasn't president. Not wasting any time here. It's becoming evident that Clarence Thomas has been pulling the strings behind Aileen Cannon. It looks like stealing official secrets and showing them to foreign powers after you leave office, is an official duty. I can't stand it.

"When [the president] uses his official powers in any way, under the majority's reasoning, he now will be insulated from criminal prosecution. Orders the Navy's Seal Team 6 to assassinate a political rival? Immune. Organizes a military coup to hold onto power? Immune. Takes a bribe in exchange for a pardon? Immune. Immune, immune, immune. Let the President violate the law, let him exploit the trappings of his office for personal gain, let him use his official power for evil ends. Because if he knew that he may one day face liability for breaking the law, he might not be as bold and fearless as we would like him to be. That is the majority's message today. Even if these nightmare scenarios never play out, and I pray they never do, the damage has been done. The relationship between the President and the people he serves has shifted irrevocably. In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law."

DeleteI wasn't able to access the article (perhaps due to being in Canada), however I read comments made by the dissenting judge. It is terrifying to think what IQ45 will do if elected. The vote in November is more important than ever before.
ReplyDeletein HRC's newsletter from yesterday she tells us that those republican justices who turned their backs on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution at their swearing in declared that no one was above the las, not even presidents. and then they conspired to or supported the effort to overturn a free and fair election and now this to protect their chosen king. this country is in for a world of hurt if Trump gets re-elected.

After listening and reading about the horrible court decision, I happened to watch the PBS News hour and saw an interview with Ryan Walters, the Oklahoma superintendent of instruction on his mandate that the bible be taught in public schools. A "mandate". What a self-righteous sob he is. They really are coming after us liberals. I've never felt like that before.
ReplyDeleteIt is unbelievable. Does the ruling take effect immediately? If so, couldn't the current President do something about IQ45? Just saying...! But really, it's not a joking matter; this is terrifying.
ReplyDeleteWell, the Supreme Court was stacked and corrupted for this very purpose they intended. I personally feel Supreme Court Justices should not be a Lifetime appointment, most of them are too Old, some of them are corrupt and have been bought and paid for... so they should be kicked off the Bench indefinitely. No Surprise that Corrupt Justices support a Corrupt Ex-President, and Dark Money has been flowing back and forth in volumes that have been exposed... but, nothing is being done about it. Thomas & Alito are no better than 45 and all feel they are above the Law... Thomas' Wifey is also a National Security Threat and supported Domestic Terrorism. So, this decision didn't surprise me in the least, it was expected in fact.
ReplyDeleteFrom here in the UK I can't fathom the apparent politicisation of the judiciary in the US. I don't pretend to understand the system or indeed the ruling so must suspend fuller judgement but at face value it seems very odd.
