Today I went with the "C" group to San Felipe. "A" people are the near racers, "B" people aren't as fast, but are faster than me. It was 65k round trip, with a 4k 5% climb. We stopped for coffee at the mid-point. Here is the pharmacy. It's interesting to me that there is still a strict separation between what the pharmacy carries, and what is available in the grocery stores. You can't buy a package of Advil in grocery store.
Here are Don and Jamie with their iced coffee.
The street where the coffee house is.
An ancient castle and an ancient clock tower. If you walk up to the top, there is a view of the ocean on the one side, and the mountains on the other. My feet hate walking in bike shoes so I didn't go. You'll just have to take my word for it.
Don and our ride leader Paolo. Paolo is 62, he used to be a hospital administrator. Three years ago he retired, and now he leads bicycle rides, and plays piano in some of the hotel bars. He allowed as how his life is very good. He's very pleasant. I enjoyed watching him ride with no hands down the bumpy roads. If I did that I'd be on the ground.
A view from the road as we were going back down hill.
Jim continues to suffer with the plague. He did not ride today, after having a terrible night punctuated by hacking and coughing. There is a doctor who makes house calls and he came this morning. The doctor is a cyclist. He told Jim to make sure he put a newspaper in his jersey for long descents because getting cold air on his chest would be bad. Anyway, he prescribed a ferocious antibiotic, and some other supportive meds; we are hoping that Jim will be able to ride by Wednesday. It's so distressing to be sick on a trip. It's been forever since he had anything, why must it be now?
