Ride and Food Review

We took the mountain bikes out to ride in the Buttermilks today.  It's an area of rocks and boulders.  Part of it is BLM land and part is owned by LA.  People go out there to climb the boulders.  We were expecting a pleasant ride through the desert.  NOT.  The dirt road is graded, but there are sections of deepish sand.  Also, there are several sections that look to be about 6%.  I think I'm still not acclimated to thinner air.  I was pretty sure I was going to die out there.

It's a lovely area, there is much scenery to enjoy while waiting to get your breath back. Overall we didn't like it much.   It's just a gruesome climb, lots of sand and coming back down isn't that much fun due to the aforementioned sand and wash boarding of the road.

After riding, we completely blew its health effects by eating here again.  Again!  This food truck is in Bishop on May street just off of 395.  We split a torta.  It's a meat bomb with avocado and green peppers, mayo and secret sauce on that soft Mexican bread.  It is so good.  They also have Sonoran dogs and burritos.  If you're in the area, this is a good place for lunch.

We scouted a couple of other areas reputed to be excellent mountain biking after lunch.  I'm pretty sure the people in the Chamber of Commerce who are waxing rhapsodic about the mountain bike opportunities in the area do not ride.  Hiking here is good, biking not so much.

  1. We didn't have our mountain bikes when we were there, but you are right. Can't remember any place along 395 where it would be fun to mountain bike. Hiking was challenge enough for us.
