Local Wildlife and Riding

It was a beautiful day!  Just glorious after our two gloomy days.  It was windy, but we went for a ride regardless.  This is what we see from behind the RV, that's a field of grass.  This area grows grass for seed.

One of the cool things about the RV park is the wildlife.  Everyday we have the parade of ducks.  There are 13 babies.  Is there anything cuter than a baby duck?  No, I think not.

There are a lot of cats.  We don't know if they have homes here or if they're feral.

This cat kept pawing at the window.

Riding in Willamette Valley is superb.  There are many long country roads, without much traffic, and generally road surfaces are good.  There is truck traffic to the quarry and the grass seed processing plant, but the drivers were all very nice.  They moved over and did not attempt to kill us.  It's very flat, so there is no climbing to be had.

In addition to grass seed, they grow bees.  This is one of many fields planted in what ever this is.  It's not clover.  It has a very pleasant sweet smell to it.  We didn't linger, however, because there are bees!  Lots of bees.

This grows everywhere.  It's about two feet tall, and the blossoms are really pretty.

We're done with tile acquisition.  That's a good thing.  After returning the tile board yesterday we discovered an REI in the neighborhood.  They had a sale going!  We also went to the Smith Family used bookstore and bought paperbacks for the trip.  The batteries on our Nooks seem to crap out when they are most needed, so we're taking backup reading material.  We're also packing Clorox wipes.  On the local news tonight we learned that MRSA tends to linger in seat back pockets and e. coli can live on armrests for a week.  Yack!  I'd really like both of us to be healthy for this trip.

  1. Glad you had sunny days to enjoy in the Willamette Valley. The white flowers are meadowfoam, grown for their oil. Among other uses, I think Aveda uses it in their hair products. The yellow flowers are California Poppies. It seems early to see them in May, but I have heard things are blooming a little early this year.

Exciting to be getting ready for your trip to Europe!

    1. Thank you for that! We've been wondering what it was. The fields of it are really lovely, but we dare not linger because of the BEEs.

  2. How beautiful the Willamette Valley area must be -- and flat for riding is always a good thing! We've been riding around where my mother lives in western NC, and it is very hilly. I crave some flat riding! Hope you will have better weather for your trip than it appears. Excited for you!
