This was last night. It's always such a surprise to me how far the sun moves north at sunset. Soon the setting sun will require standing in the middle of the street to photograph. Knowing that the rattlesnakes enjoy the heat rising from the asphalt may put an end to taking sunset pictures.
Two new masks. Now we can go to two stores and take the first mask off while driving to the second. Why does one's nose immediately itch after putting on a mask one is forbidden to touch? We're not perfect on the no touching, but we're getting better. It amuses me how they look like a swim suit top when leaned up on each other.
Our prickly pear is blooming. That plant is so old and so decrepit that we were seriously considering taking it out and replacing him. However, for the second year in a row, he's putting on an impressive bloom. I think the fact that we water him has something to do with it. But he does look pretty ragged.
This is the impulse buy cactus we had planted recently. He's very happy to be here, I did not expect him to bloom for a few years.
We were up at 6:15 in the morning to make it to senior time at Fry's. Still no toilet paper. Their produce is pretty good, they have eggs and chicken. So we were pretty tired. We got home and went back to bed. How sad is that. Later we went for a short hike.
A bird on a saguaro. If you look lower down you can see where birds have pecked holes for nests in the cactus.
In news of the pandemic, it's becoming widely known that FEMA is indeed confiscating equipment bought and paid for by the states. Some of it is given to Blue Flame Medical who then sells it back to the states. The states get to pay for it twice. Some of it is given to states with Republican Governors who have been sufficiently deferential to the president. Today the president said that there is no reason for testing, we'll just open up all the doors to all of the businesses and it will be fine. He's going to kill us all.
Other than this paltry offering, I have zippity doo dah to say.
I am so tired of the news and what's his names stupid predictions. Sure, open everything back up and let's do this all over again in a month or so. Enuf of my rant.
ReplyDeleteA bit lighter: Did you see that someone was lamenting his three favorite things to do have always been going out to eat, shopping for non-essentials, and touching his face?
ReplyDeleteMy cactus put out two beautiful buds, then died on the vine. Neither one bloomed. I'm surprised Frys didn't have tp. Both Frys and Safeway here have extra on the shelves. I'm thinking the toilet paper manufacturers are VERY happy!!
ReplyDeletehow nice that your new cactus is going to bloom. we get our best sunsets in the winter. in the summer the sun has moved over behind the houses. yes, Trump is going to kill very many of us. his whole motivation for any and everything is money. for him. I read where California is through messing with Trump, through trying to get any help from the government and plans to use it's huge economy for itself. nation-state is how Governor Newsom referred to California. if the states with governors not sufficiently 'appreciative' of Trump to get help from the federal government stop paying into the federal coffers and using their resources for their own residents, maybe that will get notice from Trump.
ReplyDeleteThose are some pretty spiffy masks you've got there. I still don't have one and nothing to make one with. My sister in Missouri said she made me one is sending it. Love those cactus blooms.
ReplyDeleteThat really DOES look like a bikini top! Love the prickly pear flower. Maybe the cactus will start looking a little better now that you're there to care for it. Can cacti be pruned?
ReplyDeleteJust catching up on a bunch of your blogs. Between all the lovely cactus flower photos and excellent commentary on the COVID-19 situation and our administration's response, your blogs make for an excellent quarantine day afternoon reading. I think your bird may be a cactus wren (imagine that!) Good job with the masks. Love the fabric and the design. Who would ever have imagined that face masks would be the fashion statement of 2020? I have only bandannas and wide yoga bands and zero sewing stuff at the moment (used to have all that but it went to Goodwill several years back), but we're doing the best we can sheltering in place back in North Carolina. Glad we left the Yucatan as the entire Yucatan state is now under an alcohol ban for the rest of April. I find wine to be rather important for getting through the current crisis. Glad you two are staying healthy! A bit bored here too, but it beats being sick.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how birds stand on those nasty thorns.
ReplyDeleteDeserts do have their own beauty. The mask looks comfortable, where did you get the pattern for it?
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to take pictures of the sun rise/set here in town. Houses, trees and too many lights.
