Hot, Fire and etc.

Hola People of Earth!  How are things in your respective climates?  Much of the world appears to be hotter than hot at present.  The heat dome that is centered over Mexico and stretching north in to Texas and Oklahoma is expected to last until July.  Meanwhile in Spokane, our spell of cool rainy days has ended and we are back in the upper 70's with sunshine.  The PNW is about the only pleasant place in the continental US at present.  There is a river of hot water that stretches from Africa up to Iceland, which will be bad for marine life.  Some of this is El Nino, some is climate change.  What has the climate scientists' hair on fire is how hot the oceans are.  Read this for an in depth article on what's causing all of this.

In Tucson, fire season has started.  See the E in front of "E. Sunrise Dr"?  That's where the condo we stayed in for two months is.  Crews are working to contain a 55-acre wildfire northeast of Tucson, near the Bighorn Fire burn scar on Tuesday. In an update officials confirmed the Ventana Fire was 25% contained.  There are many closed trail heads, including the dreaded Iris Dewhurst trail, that we hiked a lot last winter.  They're trying to keep it in the burn scar, and not allow it to burn into vegetated areas.

Yesterday the republicans voted to censure Representative Adam Schiff.  It was due to his work on the first impeachment of the orange slime mold, and his efforts with the Mueller report.  Prior to the vote, he said this.”To my Republican colleagues who introduced this resolution, I thank you.  You honor me with your enmity. You flatter me with this falsehood. You, who are the authors of a big lie about the last election, must condemn the truth-tellers and I stand proudly before you. Your words tell me that I have been effective in the defense of our democracy and I am grateful." Pretty cool take down of the forces of stupid.

Today we rode to the lake.  It was a pleasant ride.  There were very few people on the trail.  Someone official has put oil down on the unpaved road that goes to the boat ramp.  They were nice and skipped the section where the bike path crosses the road.  Here is a random photo along the way.

The tomato plant put out tomatoes, then it got cold, and they're just sitting there, not getting ripe, not doing anything.  It's aggravating.

It appears that the submersible carrying the billionaires down to great depths to view the sunken wreck of the Titanic has been crushed.  There is a debris field on the ocean floor near by.  The conspiracy nuts are already blaming the administration, the Coast Guard, anybody except the company that made the thing.   Who sends people down in a tube with 96 hours of air, steering via game console controller, and absolutely no emergency equipment?  There was no testing, crush depth was never determined, none of that good stuff that the Navy would do.  Yes, it's sad that five people have died, but this rush to make it the fault of someone else is just abhorrent.

Welp, I have nothing else to say, no funny twitter memes or cute animal photos, so I guess I will end here.

  1. Lovely weather in western Washington too! The more I read about the lack of safety inspections, the disdain for regulations, the ignoring of experts' opinions and warnings, the madder I get. What hubris from the CEO!

  2. David Pogue, the CBS journalist who took a trip a few months ago in the submersible, said in an interview heard in the past couple of days that all of them were risk takers, and that the risk is the life. I agree that the hubris from the CEO is simply phenomenal. One person I keep thinking of is the mother of the youngster who made the voyage along with his father. Yes, she lost her husband, as did the other wives, but she lost her son too. My heart goes out to her the most.

  3. You'd have to be a little unhinged to even get IN that submersible, I think. I don't understand that kind of adrenalin addiction.

Be glad you're in a cool place! We're doing OK here too, but it's supposed to get hot this weekend, from what I heard.

  4. We've had a week of cooler weather here in Saskatchewan, more normal temperatures for this time of the year. Over the next week, temperatures are starting to rise again, but as long as they stay around the 25C (77F) I'll be quite happy.
I saw video of Adam Schiff's speech. Well said, and hopefully some of the Republicans got the message. As for the Titan sub, I hope the Canadian and United States can recoup some of the costs of looking for it, from the corporation or estate of the owner.

  5. it was basically a tin can steered by a game controller and they were BOLTED IN! no way to exit from the inside. that alone would have stopped me. call me cold but I don't really feel sorry for 5 millionaires or billionaires losing their lives in a ridiculous display of wealth. a boat full of hundreds of migrants overturned in the ocean killing most and nobody gives a fuck.

I read that censuring Schiff was illegal anyway because I guess they can only censure you for behavior that occurs during the current session. I loved Schiff's speech and the democrats that applauded causing the rethugs to accuse them of unbecoming behavior. they tried to shame Schiff and only showed themselves to be the petty vindictive babies they are. and then Marge calls Boebert a little bitch on the House floor. uh, unbecoming behavior anyone?

  6. Paying a train load of money to die instantly under the weight of the ocean is just so silly. Surely they had some misgivings...It is difficult to rustle up a bit of empathy for the lot- at least they were all men- manly men. Dumbest trip ever.
Beautiful perfect day here as well! I think this is our summer...could it be?
