Photos and Hot

Hot!  Really HOT!  I have issued a directive to all and sundry that this is the LAST June I will spend in Tucson.  It's too hot.  We're going to have to book an AirBnB for next June somewhere north of here.  We had thought of moving, but the idea of giving up the house (which we really like) and winters here is just overwhelming.  It would be considerably cheaper over the years to AirBnb in various places, rather than buy in this market.

Yep, we're in drought.  However, agriculture uses 74% of the water in this state, and there are plans afoot to start buying water rights from the ag people, putting them out of business.  They're also telling the golf courses they have to cut back, the golf courses are indignant.

There are cloud buildups today, which is the opening day of Monsoon, which could look hopeful.  It's hard to know.  A weather head had a video up this morning which when distilled said there is a 50% chance of a good monsoon, or a bad monsoon.  That was very enlightening.

I have two aging photos I wanted to get up before they lose all of their relevance.  The first was taken last Friday.  There is a crescent moon, and the dot up and off to the left is Mars.  It was quite lovely to see.  The air was soft that night, further making us question the wisdom of leaving the area for parts north.

I took this yesterday.  It was the birthday of the orange ectoplasm.  It was odd how little coverage that got in the mainstream media.

How sad is that?  The homeowner built a little birthday shrine for the former guy.

  3. I know how super hot hot hot it is down there but I love it from October to May. So I'm really glad we have our little trailer and can still leave each summer. I think people who were stupid enuf to plant grass down there need to have their water supply cut down.

  4. Hot there?? Well . . . but - it's a dry heat. hahahahahahahahaha - whew. People would say that to me all the time when I lived there. I didn't actually hit anyone who said that but it was a close thing.

  5. But leaving in June still leaves July and August...tolerable if the monsoons are good. They skipped around southwest Colorado last year for the most part and left us high and dry. Makes me wonder when Lake Mead will become a river again. Water levels are now threatening power generation and drinking water for the big urban concrete blight of Lost Wages, Nevada...not to mention the salad belt further south. Regarding the increasing HEAT Arid-zona, I note that we are arriving later and leaving earlier because of more and more 80 to 90 degree days, which is no fun for boondockers without air conditioning.

  6. He is their god emperor, which is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Where would you rent an Airbnb? The possibilities must seem deliciously endless!

  7. I hear ya about loving your sweet house, and the fall, winter and spring weather here in Arizona. That soft air in the evenings and mornings and the wonderful light on the mountains. I also hear ya about the ungodly heat in the summer. I'm so glad to be on the road again, heading to parts north until October. Maybe another MH or tow behind to get you to more pleasant places?

  8. spending the hot summer month/s elsewhere is a good plan. the former guy is becoming more and more irrelevant which is why I think he's starting his rallies up again. cities better get their money up front. now if only we could convince the House and Senate republicans of it.

  9. That little shrine is bizarre. Obviously a member of the cult.
Hot is right! It's crazy hot right now. It's hard to get motivated to do anything.

  10. OMG that Birthday Shrine by the Cultists cracked me up, they're seriously demented, that Base! *Bwahahahahaha!* It is HOT as Hell, we're near Phoenix and my Truck's thermometer registers over 134 almost every Day I get into it now, pretty sure I could actually Bake in those temperatures, good thing it's a new Truck with a healthy Air Conditioner! Yeah, we're a Desert and yet I see Golf Courses galore and big Subdivision Lakes... as Climate Changes keep happening it's only going to get worse over time I think. I ran into a Snowbird still here from Minnesota, when I queried why he's still here in June, he said it was Hotter there... just WOW... preferring a June Phoenix over Minnesota's Heat Wave, that speaks volumes!

  11. I completely agree about Airbnbing -- I think I suggested that to you last summer! As you know, we did some serious stints in Airbnbs a few years back (pre-motorhome), and it worked out really well. The year we lived in Kansas City, we Airbnb'd the entire winter in different spots (beach in NC, Padre Island, Tucson, and Patagonia, AZ, a month at a time) and missed the snow and bitter cold. It worked out great. The following year we spent the summer in Walla Walla, WA in an Airbnb, and while it was hot, it wasn't like what you are getting now (and it was a dry heat, lol!) -- and the cycling was amazing! There are so many places with potential, and more monthly rentals all the time. I definitely think you are in a good spot, so keep the house and enjoy it for 3/4 of the year, then escape for the summer!
