Rest day in the desert

I copied this picture off the May-December blog. This is Melissa's dog, Monty. Monty is an Italian Greyhound, he lives in New York City and New Canaan, Connecticut. There he is with his donut bed, his little blankie and a fire. This picture pretty much defines bliss.

In the last blog I had pictures of the mine tailings out by Helmet Peak. I was fooling around with Google Earth and the extent of these things becomes apparent from space. It's been in the news lately because some outfit wants to open yet another mine in the area. The little white dots on the right side of the picture are houses in Green Valley. Green Valley is an old people's golf oriented community.

This is our RV park. It is below the circle. Above the circle is the mobile home park next door. This was taken in the low season (summer). The little white squares are park model roofs, the primarily grey parking lot is where the RVs will go when it's cooler.

Today was a rest day. We drove over to the University to have lunch at Main Gate. This was taken off the roof of the parking structure. That's looking north over Tucson to the mountains. Are they not lovely?

This is part of a retail clot that is called Main Gate, it's just outside the main gate of the campus. And look! It's the King of the Mountains in the polka dot jersey.

Lunch at La Salsa. It's like Acapulco Fresh, only not as good. Jim is looking feral, protecting his lunch from me.

Then it was on to a walk across campus. UofA is one of the most beautiful schools.

This is a museum on campus.

Old Main. This is the original building when the college was founded in 1865 or so. There were two curricula, agriculture and mining. When I went there in the 80s, ROTC was there, now it's offices for staff recruiting prospective students.

Big tree next to Old Main.

This is a malformed cactus. Wonder what did that?

Student Union. It's twice as big as when I was there. I don't like it. They did away with the kitchens and outsourced all the food service to fast food chains. It's very difficult for the students to eat well, it's all full of fat and sodium.

Plantings on the quad. The tall spikey thing in the middle is a boojum tree.

More of the quad, and student activity. Ahhh, the good life.

This is an older part of the U. I think it's part of a structure that houses some athletic endeavor. It's very art deco-ish.

So, those are the highlights from today. It was a low energy day because I needed a break!
