October 1 in Spartanburg

This is the park we stayed in while in Spartanburg. We did not like this park. Today we were talking about what makes a good park vs. a bad park. I think it has to do with the fung shui of the park. Where we are in Asheville, the chi can flow through unrestricted; bringing harmony and good fortune. In the Spartanburg park the chi is constricted; it stumbles, and stubs its chi-toe.

People are in there for the duration. This is one of those HUGE travel trailers that's close to being a park model. They've also got the box truck full of stuff and wood, for fires, all winter.

For the bulk of the time we were in Spartanburg, this is what we saw. It was not a wonderful vista.

This is a vintage Krispy Kreme.

However, there is more to Spartanburg than what we had seen. October 1 we went downtown to walk around to see what it looked like. I salute the city fathers (or mothers). They have undertaken a huge revitalization of the downtown core. We were absolutely gob-smacked at the work they have done to bring it back.

This is a Lilly Pulitzer store - in Spartanburg! Who woulda thunk? For those not in the fashion know, Lilly has been around forever selling upscale expensive preppy clothing. She's on round two of reinventing her line.

Extended Stay Hotel.

Not sure who this is, but you gotta love the hat.

Restaurant with flowers.

More downtown.

Like many cities, Spartanburg is trying to get people to move into the urban core. There are a fair amount of apartments.

Downtown parks.

Look at all the brick. All of that brick is new. They rebricked everything.

This is a photo in one of the downtown art store windows.

Jim's first experience putting diesel in the truck. Note the gloves.
We're in Asheville now as of this writing. It's much better here. Our chi is happy. I have mass quantities of photos from yesterday (Thursday) and today (Friday). There's cool stuff to do here.
