The Grove Park Inn at Asheville

October 2 - the day we escaped Spartanburg and returned to Asheville. We got in early so we went out for a drive. Our friend Sheldon had told us to go up Macon Street and look at the big houses and then go on up to the Grove Park Inn. Macon Street has some pretty impressive real estate.
These are condos. We think they were converted from being something else, but isn't it a grand building?

The Grove Park Inn. Ground breaking was 1912, and it was finished about a year later. It's really huge and grand.

The view from one of the decks.

View down one of the halls.

One of the ways they're making money is doing conferences. I remember going to conferences; the tedium, freezing to death from too much air conditioning, eating too much, listening to people drone on and on and on. They were setting up for a Titan conference.

We were just giggling at the mission statement. Who writes this stuff? Did they use the Dilbert gobbledy-gook generator?

I do not miss working in IT. Not one little bit.
So, today we went out to I40 looking for diesel - we found a TA travel plaza that was out of gas and running out of diesel. So, it ain't over yet. There are a lot of stations in Asheville with no fuel. We're full at the moment, so life is good. I must say, that this is definitely the time of year to be here in the mountains. Next post will cover the seriously fabulous NC Arboretum and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
