Uvalde, Texas

What the hell, America?

In 1994 assault weapons were banned, but the legislation expired in 2004.  Congress would not re-up the ban due to pressure from gun activists.

From the NYT we learn the following:

Among the countless chilling details to emerge from the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday was this: The authorities had asked parents waiting in agony for news about their children to give DNA samples.

The request suggests that some of the 19 children who were killed may have been so severely wounded and grouped so closely together that they were difficult to identify, according to experts in medical forensics.

We used to have rational thought on this subject, but those days are over.  What is it going to take?

A very good article on what assault weapons do to a human body. I wonder how many more children have to die before US politicians do the right thing.

    1. It's a gruesome, distasteful thought, but I wonder if publishing the pictures of children killed by AR-15s would bring the gun nuts up short. Let them see the damage. Thanks for the article.

    2. People don't seem to be swayed by facts.

  4. I cannot fathom how or why guns are revered more than the lives of the innocents. I saw a clip of a statement from Ted Cruz calling for only one access point and more police presence at schools. I think that would be called a prison.... The man hasn't two brain cells to rub together.

  5. Not only that, the cops waited outside for about 40 minutes before they made any attempt to enter the school while that guy killed 19 kids. Serve and protect? The only thing they protected was their own asses. Republicans will never do the right thing. They blocked the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act today form any discussion on the floor of the Senate, much less allowing a vote. I don't think even their own kids or grandkids being killed would sway them. They are soulless. I can't believe there are people in this country who are willing to have these mass murders continue just so they can have an assault weapon to play with but here we are.

  6. Yes, the police were completely demoralized. Parents begged to charge the school and were not only restrained, but cuffed on the ground. Dear god, what will it take. One of their kids or grandkids slaughtered? Cept they're probably all in private schools, less likely to be assaulted.
