January 20, 2021

Today was the best inauguration ever.  Not only did it mark the end of our national nightmare, it brought us hope.  President Biden truly is the man for this time.  It's good that his previous efforts to become president failed, because they brought him to this day.  I can not think of anyone more qualified to do this job.  Even the heavens were happy.

Amanda Gorman was the stand out orator of the event.  The transcript of her poem can be found here.  Imagine, she's 22 years old and she can write like this and recite it at a presidential inauguration.  How does it happen that she has this amount of grace and poise at such a young age?

Lady Gaga's rendition of The Star Spangled Banner was excellent.  When she sang it, she was also telling the story and showing us what the words meant.  It's usually such a cringe worthy song because of the range, but she nailed it.

It was good - it was really, really good and I'm so happy that they're here.

From Amanda Gorman's poem:

We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it,

would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy.

And this effort very nearly succeeded.

But while democracy can be periodically delayed,

it can never be permanently defeated.

In this truth, in this faith, we trust.

For while we have our eyes on the future,

history has its eyes on us.

  1. it was indeed. Joe was saved for this and his administration reflects who we are, the range of our color, our sexuality, our religious and/or humanitarian beliefs, our heritages and cultures and that we all are here with all these differences that we have to contribute to the single whole that is this country and not some reflection of a misguided idea that one group of people is better than all others.

  3. I think the world breathed a sigh of relief, now there is someone in charge who is a statesman, a diplomat and clearly understands his role. A great speech too.

  8. I couldn't agree more about Biden. He is exactly the man we need at this time. With his common-man aura and absolute decency, he reminds me of Harry Truman.

  9. Wasn't it amazing? I devoured every minute of it all the way until 9:00 PM when the last of the Celebration of America ended. Everything about the day was sheer perfection. I feel like a great weight has been lifted. I hope it's gone forever.
