The Weather

The weather has become weird here.  Yesterday the talking weather heads were predicting high winds, plummeting temperatures and possibly locusts.  OK, maybe no locusts.  Anyway, at high noon the temperatures were in the upper 60s, winds were light and we went for a hike in shorts and tee shirts.  It was just a delightful day.

This is the harbinger of what is to come.  White puffy clouds.

As we headed out for hunting and gathering, the clouds were massing and getting dark.  I had to laugh at us, by the time we got to Target, the temperature had dropped significantly and the wind had picked up.  We had abandon our plans and go home for warmer clothing.  Dressing for the climate you want, rather than what you have is bad.

We saw this at the intersection of Mission and Ajo.  How does this happen?

When we got home, we covered the drive way bougainvillea.  That's the one we really want to survive.  It was difficult to wrap because of the wind.

Cactus under cover.  They're cold!

Tonight and tomorrow night it's going down into the 20s.  I'm not happy about this.

  1. 20s? yikes! my bougainvillea in the city froze down a couple of times but always came back from the roots.

  2. That's too cold for me, though it often grows colder. Not this winter, though.

  3. 20s!? That is crazy. Our bougainvillea is thankfully undaunted by our lows here. I think we hit 64 this past week, our chilliest night of the year! But I'm not bragging as it's to be 90+ for most of the next 10 days. NOT happy about this in February. Crazy weather everywhere, I guess.

  4. The only good thing about this stupid cold weather is that it doesn't last. Back to the 70s this weekend.

  5. I am on my to west Texas for the spring flower bloom. This little cool spell should make the cacti and succulents around west Texas go nuts in a couple of weeks. This is the first time I have seen your blog and it is very enjoyable. Thanks for writing.

  7. Ha! I almost always dress for the weather I want, Dave dresses for the weather we have! I guess I figure I can force the weather to be what I want - this rarely works however.

  8. It fascinates me that it's colder where you are than where we are up north. Stay warm.

  9. I hate it when it gets this cold and you have it a bit worse down there. I hear you really did get a freeze. It looks like it will warm up this weekend.
