This morning we went to Costco. We got 10 pounds of oatmeal for $8, which is what Safeway is charging for two pounds; four packages (24 muffins) of Thomas English Muffins for $8.99, vs. Safeway's $5.99 for one package. Costco is not as convenient, but one can not argue with the pricing. However, having said that, Costco is now being surrounded by new development. A Fred's Appliances is going in, and there will be more retail.
Also being developed is Mead Works.
Mead Works is a 300+ Acre project located south and east of the intersection of Farwell Road and the Newport Highway (SR 2).
• 300+ Acre Mixed-Use Project
• Designated 55+ section
• 1,400 Proposed Single-Family Homes
Here is map: That's Costco on the right, you can see the flat roof.
They have a model home constructed.
The garage is in the the back of the house, accessed by an alley.
Traffic in the north end is bad, and I guess it's going to get worse. Spokane has been working on a connector road that is supposed to take part of the load, but they don't seem to be able to finish it. It's been years. Feh, I hate progress.
Christy Walton, a Walmart gazillionaire paid to have this full page ad placed in the New York Times. She is the widow of John T. Walton, who was one of the sons of the Walmart founder Sam Walton. In June 2005, her husband died in a homebuilt ultralight plane crash, making her the main heir to his fortune of US$18.2 billion. She is a major benefactor of "No Kings". She's doing good with her money, unlike the Publix heiress who funded January 6.
This should be the headline for every newspaper everywhere.
That's it, that's all I've got. I can't talk about Ukraine, too sad. Russia bombed citizens again last night.
Looks like a nice little cottage from the front until you see it from the side.
ReplyDeleteThis country could go up in smoke on No King's Day. Trump is deploying National Guard and US military nationwide to provoke violence and give him an excuse for the harsh retaliation he promises. Our governor is all in, has already sent the Texas National Guard to San Antonio.
Bravo to Christy Walton! I hadn't heard she was doing that.
ReplyDeleteI was reading this morning an article about the No Kings movement - I wasn't aware of Christy Walton and her advocacy. Good on her. There is some discussion that various unions are also involved, and there is some hope that labour will be able to turn the tide, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteThe situation in Ukraine is so frightening and maddening at the same time.
I tried to sign up for the No Kings rally in the town closest to me (admittedly a small town), and got an "event is at capacity" message. That made me very happy! One, it meant that I didn't have to go out in this awful heat and humidity myself; two, it meant that enough of my fellow concerned (outraged) citizens were planning to protest & rally that the event was full! Third, it meant that these rallies are following the law, getting permits for a certain number of people and keeping it peaceful. I pray there is no violence today across the US but fear there will be. Tempers are flaring, it's hot in many places, and people are PISSED, and rightly so.
