January 1, 2024

Happy First Day of the Year.  Our NYE was sedate, to say the least.   We're watching Vera on Britbox on Amazon Prime.  We had started the series, Commander, but after two episodes and 10 minutes into the third episode we moved away from it.  It was just creepy and stupid with a high ick factor.  However, anything would have been better than this.

From Meidastouch we read the following.

Donald Trump's hosted his annual New Year's Eve Party at Mar-a-Lago last night and it was quite a scene. The festivities opened up with Trump walking out on stage to his rally theme song, Lee Greenwood's 'Proud to be an American.' But this time it was performed by a Guy Fieri lookalike fronting a Lawrence Welk band while Trump struck his best Mussolini pose while a graphic light show was raging behind them.

The headline singer was Vanilla Ice, accompanied by a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.  The article can be found here.  It's worth a read, if only for the photos.

The fireworks were astonishing last night.  At midnight it sounded like being in a war zone.  Mercifully they ran out of ammo about 1:00 am.  During the years we stayed here in the RV, it was never this bad.  Oddly enough, we had not seen any fireworks stands; perhaps because they're illegal in Tucson.

Carry on.  This year will be something.

  1. Happy New Year!
I suspect 2024 will be a disturbing year in many ways, not least of all the election in the U.S. Did you hear/read the recent threats from IQ45's "friend" in North Korea. He's not sounding too friendly at all.

  2. his best Mussolini pose...that's good. I described it as trying to look regal before his adoring fans.

there seemed to be a lot more long strings of firecrackers than ariels this year. of course I never once looked out so I don't know. and guns. why people empty their guns is beyond me. unlike firecrackers that just pop where they are, bullets go somewhere and eventually hit something.

  5. Who knew Vanilla Ice was still alive? And, the performance of the Wannabe-Dictator is predictable, his rabid Base eat that shit up. Oh... and they Vote... so... the rest of America better not be Asleep at the Wheel in this next Election, their Democracy depends on it. We had a lot of Ammo in the Air here too, Phoenix it's Legal, so odd that just a few Miles South in Tucson, it's not... Arizona being Weird like that. The Man has severe PTSD so I was glad when it finally and mercifully ended, it's hard on our War Veterans to hear explosions and Gunfire around them.

  7. Happy New Year, a little late. I am behind on blog reading, as usual. We heard a few gunshots up until about 10 pm on NY's Eve. These are the rural equivalent or poor man's version of fireworks. But either they stopped early or we slept through them at midnight. Thank goodness. When we were RVing in Florida in the winters, the fireworks were awful and went on for a good long time after midnight. Do not miss that one bit.
