Coalinga to Mt. Shasta

Greetings from the Mt. Shasta KOA.  It can only be described as rustic.  The site is so lumpy we can't level the RV.  I think if we ever drive north from LA on I5 again we'll stay in Redding instead of here.  Today was a very long day.  California is doing some paving, but they don't pave the bridges; worse, they put a lump of asphalt down on the edge of the bridge deck so it's like hitting a speed bump.  It was a long haul from Coalinga.  So, note to self, no more Mt. Shasta KOA.
This is Lake Shasta, very pretty.

They're widening I5 through the lake area and putting in a new bridge.  It's gonna be big.

This is 20 miles from the RV park.  Twenty miles!  Actually our timing on hitting this was good (for us), it was a fresh accident, but it was old enough that it didn't happen right in front of us.  Timing is everything, so much of our lives just comes down to timing.

There's an over turned semi on its side up there.

The EMTs had pulled one person from the cab and had another on a back board on the side of the cab.  We couldn't tell if the driver had taken the curve too fast or if someone had cut him off.  That accident scene is going to linger for quite some time.

This is a beautiful part of the state.

What we saw on the way in to Mt. Shasta.  The actual Mt. Shasta was covered in clouds, so no picture for you!

Tomorrow we shall arrive in Bend.  We will reacquaint ourselves with the riding of our bicycles, and the losing of some weight we have recently accumulated.
