Peanut Butter

I love peanut butter, but it has so many calories!  Yesterday we were at Walmart picking up the essentials of life (toilet paper and paper towels) and we saw this.  It's powdered peanut butter.  It has 85% less fat than regular peanut butter.   We figured even if it wasn't great, we might be able to use it to make peanut sauce.

It looks like this in the jar.

One adds one tablespoon of water to two tablespoons of powdered peanut butter.

Eh voila!  We have peanut butter.  Jim put it on toast with jelly. He says it tastes like peanut butter.  It's good, and is an excellent low fat alternative.

So, there it is, my gastronomical tip for the day.

  1. I have heard about this from Weight Watchers. I never did find it to try it. I might need to investigate myself now that I have to watch somethings more closely :P

  2. I've been using this for a few years. There are now about five different companies that make the powdered version. I have an energy bar recipe that I make all the time that calls for 1/2 cup of peanut butter and use this instead to save calories. I like that you can mix it into different thickness depending on what are going to use it for. However, yes the down side, this isn't recommended by nutritionist because the healthiest part of the peanut has been removed which is the oil. They feel you should be eating frsh ground nut butters for the health benefits. So when we are hiking I use fresh ground peanut butter or almond butter with our apple. But PB2 is pretty good, isn't it!

  3. Tried it years ago, and it was okay, but I think whole foods are best so buy regular natural peanut butter (just peanuts and salt) and TRY to eat it in moderation. :-)

  4. I have been looking for this! I need it for a couple of recipes for dried meals for my river trip. I can't believe you found it at Walmart! Gotta keep looking, I guess. Was it in the section with the regular PB?
