Refer back to my last post, if you would, and notice the dirt left at the bottom of the wall at the new home site. We went by today, and there is even less dirt than before. I can't believe how close to the bottom of the wall the grading is. We will stand by to be amazed if it remains standing. There were many people working on the lot so we gawked but did not photograph. Forms for the slabs are now in. Concrete is next.
It is windy today. It's been building all day. There were a couple of gusts that pushed the very heavy mountain bikes to the side when we were riding. It's comforting being on a heavy bike, they generally go in a straight line, even in the gusts. It's a beautiful day, despite the howling wind. Blue skies and white puffy clouds are on order.
Soon it will be time to prune the bougainvillea. He hasn't suffered any frost damage this winter, which was good. We didn't have temperatures in the teens, so he was a happy plant.
This is a grey fox next to the back of the house. Unfortunately, he's dead. We suspect he was poisoned, or ate a rodent that had been poisoned. It was sad, they're such pretty animals. Until today, I didn't know they lived in the area. We carried him in a bucket and put him under a tree in the wash. Burial really isn't an option since we don't own a jack hammer, and the ground is too hard due to the drought.
Yesterday the lawyer for the AZ GOP was asked by one of the supreme court justices what was wrong with providing a method of returning ballots that made it convenient for voters. AZ is trying to ban the practice of "ballot harvesting" which means that people can take their neighbors' ballots in when they go into the city. For people living on the reservations, this is a very big deal because so many of them do not own cars and it's a long way to just about everywhere. Anyway, the lawyer answered that the practice rendered the republicans "less competitive" and that politics is "a zero sum game." They're saying the quiet part out loud and in front of the Supreme Court. The First People were instrumental in electing Biden, the republicans will do anything to suppress their vote.
Jim gets shot number two this Saturday, we're pretty excited about that. Other than this, I have zippity doo dah all to report.
That is a beautiful fox. Our native fox is a red fellow. Thanks for giving the guy a decent send off.
ReplyDeleteI'm holding my breath on this current SCOTUS case.
ahhhh lovely little fox. I might have taken it to the local taxidermist and kept in my kitchen forever. I LOVE where you are living, it is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteA voting rights act is so essential now, and so is the elimination of the filibuster. Meanwhile, voting rights activists will have to be doubly creative, such as organizing buses to take groups of people who live far away from ballot drop off points to turn in their ballots themselves. Of course, these laws just give Republicans, who have not won the popular vote since 1988, more to take issue with post election.
ReplyDeleteso sad to see the little guy just lying there. We had a really windy day yesterday and it was capped off by rain! You heard me correctly - Rain! I heard it during the night but was really surprised to see puddles all around this morning and our chairs are wet!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's heartbreaking about the fox. I hate to think of the knock-on effect of all the poison that's out there. Will creatures like vultures eat HIM and wind up poisoned themselves? Probably.
ReplyDeleteHow sad about the fox. We had some poisoned in our neighborhood a few months back...some people just don't seem to care at all about the whole connection of all living things.
ReplyDeletepoor little fox. republicans know they won't get elected without cheating and voter suppression but I was surprised they admitted as much before the supreme court though individual Rs have said as much before. you'd think they would come up with some policies that the majority of Americans were in favor of if they want to get elected but that's not their agenda. their agenda is to impose unpopular policies on the public. it remains to be seen how this SC will rule...in favor of suppression or in favor of democracy.
ReplyDeleteThat poor little fox. Why do people poison animals? It's sickening.
ReplyDeleteAs for the repulican party, I'm sure there are some good republican politicians but they are far outnumbered by the filthy slime that appears to have taken over the party. It's despicable.
Sad about the fox. On one of our bike rides in the Yucatan, we saw one freshly killed on the road where we ride. It had happened during our ride as we were on the "back" part of our out-n-back. I hated seeing it.
ReplyDeleteI hope Jim will not react to his second vaccine dose as my husband has. He had his yesterday and has had every side effect in the book so far (headache, chills, aches, nausea, vomiting, crushing fatigue, and malaise). The symptoms started about 15 hours after his vaccine. He's been mostly in bed all day today and hasn't been able to eat anything. He had a mystery two-day illness in early Dec. that we thought might have been a mild case of COVID, and now we're even more curious, as all the symptoms were the same as what he's getting in response to the virus. So, if he had COVID, I probably did too, the asymptomatic type. Who knows? I'll be getting my vaccine as soon as they open up to the general population and am really hoping I won't have as bad a reaction as Barry. Poor thing.
The only positive things I can say about blatant Racism being spoken out loud is better the devils you know than the devils you don't.
ReplyDeletePS: I was going to comment on how adorable that sleeping Fox was, until I realized... dead! We think we recently lost our Aged Cat to a poisoning, we live in a Mini Farm Community in the City, but since so many Homeowners have Citrus and Livestock, there is a Roof Rat problem and I suspect people poison them and in turn, it poisons anything that comes into contact with the poisoned Rodent.
