The garage guys did show up on Wednesday to do the sealer coat on the floor. If you're ever contemplating this for your house, plan on staying in a hotel for both nights they are working. The sealer coat is so much worse than the first layer. Despite putting blue tape across the door and the frame on the door to the garage, opening doors and windows for cross ventilation, and running fans - it was brutal. I'm pretty sure my brain shrunk a little during the process from the chemicals.
Here is is, in all of its loveliness.
Wednesday we took Jim's cross bike over to
BICAS. The garage is tiny and having a 5th bike in the space was becoming annoying. Jim doesn't ride it anymore, and BICAS will find a good recipient for it. I think the shift levers are going to have to be replaced, since Shimanos can not be re-built or fixed, and we did not want to spend the money on it. It was kind of sad, we put a lot of miles in Europe on those bikes. There were also many miles with fenders and mudflaps for riding in the winter in Seattle, back in the days when we were crazy.
The wind continues to howl in our area. We had planned to go up to Second Ridge today, but given the wind speeds, I think we'll stay on lower trails. It's very annoying.
Like some other bloggers, we're having trouble mustering enthusiasm for planning the summer. We have the usual three months in Issaquah booked, but after last year's heat, humidity and wild fire smoke, we're viewing it with a jaundiced eye. I just do not have an alternative. We could go back to Capitol Reef in June, but then that forces us to travel through Boise which has become difficult due to too few RV parks and too many people. There are days when I'm pretty sure my head is going to explode thinking about it.
The hummer is still on the nest, which she has so beautifully lined with down which came from other birds.
One of the neighbors mentioned that the hummingbirds have been flying erratically. They're eating bugs. Apparently they can snatch them out of the air, or out of a flower, and swallow them whole.
it is a beautiful surface. I did not know that hummers ate bugs. how big are those eggs? 1/4"?
ReplyDeleteI think they're about the size of a jelly bean, a regular one. They lay one egg, and then two days later lay the other one, and then start incubating. The eggs seem really large for the size of the bird.
DeleteThose Shimano changers are ridiculously expensive to replace. Its exciting having the humming bird nesting.
ReplyDeleteInteresting from top to bottom today. I've seen all sorts of epoxy finishes. They seem to last forever, too. I so hope the little eggs make it through and mama is not disappointed. I've fed my share of hummers, but never had one nest at the house.
ReplyDeleteYour floor looks amazing!! Is that paint or tile?? You're making me feel bad. My garage is a big mess!!! LOL Love mama hummer.
ReplyDeleteIt's epoxy over concrete. Should be durable.
DeleteLove the hummingbird nest! And your garage floor looks amazing. We have never had anything but plain old concrete. Pretty swanky!
