I don't think anyone really expected anything else from the republican party. Perhaps if it had been a secret vote, as it was when Liz Cheney succeeded in keeping her leadership position, things would have been different. However, it was done in the light of day, with the republicans scurrying back under their rocks. After the vote, Mitch McConnell gave an impassioned speech excoriating the former president's actions before and during the insurrection/riot. It was very brave of him. Actually, I think he's trying to woo the big donors back into the fold.
So, another sad day for democracy.
The GOP have lost their way. Baa baa baa.
ReplyDeleteMitch is trying to play both sides. He didn't vote for conviction, to pacify the Trumpers, but he talks a big game to appeal to the moderates. He has no courage and no integrity.
ReplyDeleteMitch McConnell is a piece of shit. he adjourned the Senate so that the House couldn't send the articles of impeachment before the inauguration then he tells his people to vote their conscious then he votes to acquit because Trump was no longer in office and then he gives a speech about Trump being guilty? MM can go fuck himself. the GOP is dead. it is now the Trumplican party. and I hope the donors will continue to stay away but you know they will eventually start giving money again. the only hope is that the moderate Republicans who I read are talking about starting a new republican party will keep the vote split.
ReplyDeleteYes it was. I honestly don't understand it. The crazy people in this country have way too much power right now.
ReplyDeleteTrumplican...that is perfect, thanks ellen abbott. They are certainly that.
