I took this picture two days ago. The Bighorn fire looms over Tucson, it's growing. It looks ominous when you can see the fire swirling on the ridges this far away. Last time I checked it was threatening a development called Saddlebrook. There are a lot of homes there. It makes me wonder if Tucson Mountain Park (across the street from us) would burn like this.
There's just not that much to write about since we are mostly in the house. Between the virus and the heat, we're pretty much in for the day after about 9:30 or so. Arizona's cases are increasing at an enormous rate. Governor Ducey is back pedaling on his message of all is well, and is giving local governments the ability to mandate the wearing of masks. Hopefully Mayor Romero will act on this before it's too late. The hospitals are in the process of being overwhelmed by patients. Today's testing had a rate of 20% positives.
This is a butterfly on the bougainvillea. Its wings look a little tattered.
I need to get my camera manual out, I could not remember how to make the shutter speed faster, something I did with great regularity when we would sit outside watching the hummingbirds in the morning at the RV park.
That's it! That's all I've got.
The fires in Arizona are just incredible this year. So scary. And the cases of Corona - what did they expect when they said go have fun. And yet people, smart people, think that wearing a mask won't help. I so disagree with them. We seem to be in the minority wherever we go with our masks on but that's okay with me.
ReplyDeleteas the planet gets hotter I'm afraid wildfires will increase. we humans have royally screwed things up and then turn a blind eye. well, not all of us. it may not matter coronavirus may wipe us out first. if not this one, the next one. after working outside yesterday, I stayed in today.
ReplyDeletePoor flutterby; that's one bad wing. I can remember when I was a good photographer; no manual would help me these days. I'm just happy with what I get.
ReplyDeleteI was checking on that fire the past week on the Tucson webcam but, I notice now they have the camera turned off. I wonder if it got too smokey. What a pretty butterfly.
ReplyDeleteI read that the buffel grass is a big factor in this fire destroying the saguaros. The other side went after it as it's invasive; so maybe it'd be less major in the Tucson Mountains or Saguaro National Monument. It was brought in to help with erosion. Not going to be much help with the rains come with monsoons and the floods are worse.
ReplyDeleteThat butterfly does look a bit tired, poor thing!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures of flower and butterfly. The fire looks scary.
