Work and Crazy

We have the dreaded list of stuff we have to do prior to leaving for Arizona.  That will occur probably November 4 or 5.  We've got two items done.

We had a gutter that leaked at the corner.  I guess it had been leaking for awhile because the wood had gotten a little punky.  So there was sanding, and filling, and two coats of paint.  Here is Jim, on the ladder, where he does not like to be.  It actually was surprisingly level and stable.

There is a wasp nest under the porch.  They were not out flying while we were there, and happy we were about that.

We painted out of a small can of primer/paint.  The giant ladle would not fit in it to transfer paint.  An old sterling silver ladle worked well.

Then there was the twice yearly trimming of the hedge.  It still has a wow in it, I'm just not going to look there.

We still have the wrapping of deer netting around the arborvitae, but it's too soon to do that.

It rained today, so it was good that we got the painting done before that happened.

The governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, is covering himself in glory.  The day after the Charlie Kirk shooting he said this.  "For the last 33 hours, I had been praying that this person (who murdered Charlie Kirk) was from another country. That he was not one of us because we are not like that. But it was one of us."

Today on Meet the Press, Cox said this.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said Sunday that investigators are not ready to discuss the motive behind the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. But he said the 22-year-old suspect had left-leaning political beliefs and disliked the conservative influencer.

“Clearly a leftist ideology," Cox told NBC's “Meet the Press.” On CNN's “State of the Union,” he said, “That information comes from the people around him, his family members and friends."

Cox said Robinson is “not cooperating” and that friends paint a picture of someone radicalized in the dark corners of the internet. “Clearly there was a lot of gaming going on,” Cox said on NBC. “Friends have confirmed that there was kind of that deep, dark internet, the Reddit culture, and these other dark places of the internet where this person was going deep.”

Nothing is known for sure.  We do know that Tyler Robinson was mad that Charlie Kirk was demanding the release of the Epstein files.  Most of the rest is just noise.  It's interesting that Reddit is being besmirched, I like Reddit, they're informative.

On Friday, Brian Kilmeade said this on Fox, sitting on the couch with two co-hosts.  "Involuntary lethal injection, or something. Just kill them." He wants to kill homeless people.  Neither co-host missed a beat, they, just kept on blathering.  There is something wrong with these people.  Today he issued a half-assed apology for what he said.

Companies are firing or suspending employees for their social media responses to the death of Charlie Kirk.  Seems like a violation of first amendment rights.  Article is here.  Additionally, the Secretary of War is actively scanning social media for unapproved thought.

Here is my socially acceptable political cartoon about the shooting.  It's based on what the man himself said, in public, and on video, that a few gun deaths were worth it to preserve the second amendment.

This is what an aurora looks like when you're flying a plane.

It's just another day in crazy town.  I would really like to be Canadian.

  1. Oh we have our own crazy shit here. I didn't realize that Reddit had it's own "culture". Colour me surprised. We haven't had the news on thankfully.

  2. Canda is catching the orange virus I am afraid. As well as the UK. Perhaps set your sights on Mexico somewhere. Or Panama or NZ. anywhere but here, I reckon. We are stuck here , Dennis will noit budge. He is older.

  3. Good to have wasps around to deal with garden pests, but after their job has finished they no longer get that sugar hit as a reward..so go for ripe fruit....and a drunk wasp is as much use as a drunk human.....

Who would have thought that there could be those further to the right than the orange one and CK....

Safe travels...that aurora photo is stunning xx

  4. I had a leaky hose bib replaced yesterday. It's only been doing that for most of the year. My neighbor chastised me when I told him I had been on the ladder cutting some tree branches without a spotter.

'We are not like that'? You are like that and it's always one of you. So convinced of their own holier than thou. The kid is not a leftist and nothing about him is leftist ideology. These people are so desperate to blame anyone but themselves while advocating murdering the homeless.

  5. We have our crazies here too. In fact, the two largest cities in Alberta (Calgary and Edmonton) held vigils last night for CK. I just don't get it.
    The Governor is an idiot.
We had wasps under our front step and in a creeping juniper last year. I found some spray - I think it was Raid. I waited until nighttime and then used the entire canister on both...and we haven't seen a wasp since. Hope you get rid of them quickly.

  6. Much to my shame I'm following the Kirk killing pretty closely as the story unfolds. This is the first mention I've seen of this: "We do know that Tyler Robinson was mad that Charlie Kirk was demanding the release of the Epstein files." If you stumble upon the source of that statement would you post it here? We live in dangerous times and I fear tRump will take advantage of this apparently motive-less killing to do even more damage to the country.

  7. Canada is crazy too! Alberta is trying to secede! These extremist people are everywhere. It truly is a global problem.

I'm no fan of Spencer Cox but I did like it when he told people who are excessively online to "go outside and touch grass." I think that's sensible advice!

  8. I think Extremism is becoming a Global problem, but America is leading in Off the Rails Political Extremism right now that Democracies generally fall apart once it's gotten a foothold, then a stronghold. Crazies are everywhere and I'm not so interested in the Motives of those who use Violence for their Grievances as their Solution, either Murder is Wrong... or, it isn't, people need to decide which side of Murder they're on and quit trying to vilify one side or another... a Criminal Act is a Criminal Act regardless of the motivation behind it or the Politics or Religion one is using as their excuse to commit something horrific. But, pretty sure MAGA will use this, and this Administration always wants to lay all blame on everything Wrong on Democrats, so there won't be any Unity of Purpose Politically, which is a big part of the problem and will never arrive at a solution therefore. Arizona is awaiting you when you arrive, it's the time of year when we're finally cooling off some and Visitors begin arriving to enjoy the Weather.
