We got up early to ride. It's currently 95F, it's hot. It's also windy. It was a nice morning. The ducks were having a lie in this morning.
The millfoil is blooming. It's getting very yellow.
47 had a cabinet meeting today. He got hostile when asked about why the Epstein files had been disappeared. I can't imagine why they would want to hide the records of who rode on the plane.
Previously 47 said that ICE would no longer be raiding agriculture to arrest immigrants. He was later over ruled by the Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins. This happened today.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said on Tuesday during a news conference that there will be “no amnesty” for migrants and mass deportations will continue to achieve a “100% American workforce.” Rollins cited the number of adults in the Medicaid program, saying there are plenty of workers available in America.
“When you think about it, there are 34 million able-bodied adults in our Medicaid program. There are plenty of workers in America, but we just have to make sure we are not compromising today, especially in the context of everything we are thinking about right now,” Rollins said. “So, no amnesty under any circumstances, mass deportations continue, but in a strategic and intentional way, as we move our workforce towards more automation and towards a 100% American workforce.”
Think about this statement. She wants to put people on Medicaid out in the fields. 22 million people on Medicaid are 50 and over. Many of those people are students, care givers, or have jobs at places like Walmart or Amazon. That is such difficult work, and she's going to put Medicaid recipients out harvesting lettuce. There is no automation in agriculture, it's all back breaking human labor. This is just incredibly stupid. More is here.
The lunatics have been out and about. Veterans on Patrol have decided that the Texas floods were caused by weather radar. To that end, they want to destroy the Nexrad system. This is also incredibly stupid. Nexrad has been around since the 1990s, it detects precipitation in the atmosphere. It can also help pinpoint
tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, prompting timely, life-saving
warnings. The system is also used by the Federal Aviation Administration
and the US Air Force. So these guys are on a mission to destroy the radar system. More is here.
Texas Monthly has an article up about what Mystic Camp meant to Texas. I thought it was just another summer camp, but it seems that it was a launching pad into society for the daughters of wealthy people. It's an interesting read. I don't come from this rarefied strata of society, so this was news to me.
Other than this paltry offering, I got nuthin'.

My cousin's child has one lung and heart failure. But I guess she can drag her oxygen tank out into the fields to pick strawberries. SMDH
ReplyDeleteThat lake looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo far from reality...how can they do these things?
Only mention on threads about the two Mexican councillors working to save people after the Guadeloupe river floods. And a mention on early Radio Scotland news that other rivers have had similar flooding..which isn't surprising.
The stupidity in this country is overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteI saw a similar article on Camp Mystic in the NYT, I think? I had never heard of it before but I suppose that's because, like you, I do not travel in those circles. (And I'm not from Texas.)
ReplyDeleteI wonder how Rollins is concluding that those Medicaid recipients are "able-bodied adults." It's one thing to be a reasonably healthy adult, but that doesn't mean they're capable of farm work. (As you said.)
Covered dishes and a pat on the hand...sweet Jeezus. We had a Bible college in the city that we called the Bridal college, because young women only went there to meet potential husbands. While there were no boys at this camp, the purpose seems to be to prep these girls for a life of privilege.
ReplyDeleteThe stupidity of the entire administration is on display to the rest of the world.
So much going on, I can hardly keep pace... and I don't travel in those Circles either to know much about the demographics of those Summer Camps, just that my Family could never afford them. That said, it seems those who went to them for Generations only had good Memories and things to say and this Tragedy is so epic and so much trauma and loss of Life, that Community will never fully Recover from what they've all been thru. I do think the Community, if a more affluent one than I thought they might be, should invest in better and more effective Early Warning Systems. This Regime is making such reckless cuts to so much that there is bound to be consequences, and responding to Disasters is crucial, response has to be fast to get resources in place. Natural Disasters are chronic now and yet they want to foist everything upon each State and frankly exonerate the Federal Government from responding... many States don't have the resources or funding, others do, so it won't be equitable to Americans in Crisis.
