Riding Gates Pass

We rode Gates Pass today.  For me, it was very difficult.  However, here I am at the top.

It's hunting season in the Tucson Mountain Park.  It gives me the willies knowing that there are many bow hunters out among the cactus looking for deer.  A wayward arrow would really ruin a person's day.
Other than this paltry offering, I have zippity doo-dah all to say.

  1. Did it seem reasonably safe to you, or were you gripping the handlebars with white knuckles?

  2. The hunters don't concern me on the road, I think more about them when we're hiking. Traffic, however, was pretty heavy today. I guess a lot of people are still on vacation. Most drivers in Tucson are used to seeing bikes going up Gates Pass and they tend to be courteous and not pass on blind corners. It's a narrow road, so a passing car has to cross the center line. I did not feel like we were in mortal danger, despite the increased number of cars.

  3. We would not even consider riding up that road, so good for you!

  4. That's one hell of a ride! Of course, I avoid steep hills like that whenever possible! ;-)

  5. Oh, I meant to add that I did not know they allowed hunting in TMP! There must be a fair amount of deer for that to happen. Looking forward to our arrival in Tucson on 1/28!
